-Mike Dieckmann, Hillsboro, MO

"ya g'day.......I'm not planning to write every day but hey it's not every day that someone talks to me about Chi-baby-Coltrane..I carried one or two albums under my arms as handbaggage in the days before c.d. and that is from Holland to New Zealand , cos nothing was gonna stop me from enjoying Chi ' s music.....it's goosebumbs-material......"

-Marcel van Leeuwen, Christchurch, New Zealand

"... I really love her music and her voice. In my opinion, it's true passion. Her music means a lot to me, also because it's strongly linked to the most beautiful period of my life."

-Nicholas Bernardy, Vienna, Austria

"I saw Chi Coltrane open the show for Electric Light Orchestra at the
Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis many years ago.  When she finished I
could care less about seeing ELO.  She stole the show.  Great act and
obviously very talented."

Richard King

"Thanks for your very interesting homepage on Chi Coltrane. I've an album of her (the first one, printed in the netherlands) and very addicted to it. For me the songs Goodbye John and Feeling good are the best."

-Simone Zwiers, Zoetermeer, Netherlands

" Finally...information on one of the greatest voices in rock. I'm in the radio business here in So. Cal. and the only place I'll hear Chi is on Primestar Audio at home. Then it's only "Thunder & Lightning." ....

My husband  and I are working on putting together an internet radio site and her music will definitely be on our play list. ....I have always wanted to know where she was and what she is doing."

-Donna Rose

"The first time I heard about Chi Coltrane was only a few months ago. So, I must admit that I'm a newbie in this area. There was a television show  about 70's music and they played the video that was made for "Go like Elijah". After visiting some local CD-stores I was able to find the CD "The Best Of...". The CD now has a permanent place in a slot in my car stereo and I listen to it almost every day, when I drive to work.

I used to be a great Elvis fan (I still am) because of his vocal talents. And the first thing that struck me about CC were her vocal talents: from low to high and from soft to loud, she has it all! Few (female) artists are able to sing the way she does."

Eddy Nijland, Holland (11/99)

When I was a young kid of about 10 years of age, I saw this energising performance of a beautiful woman, playing go like Eliyah. Years later I heard that song again on the radio, and it still hit me to the bones! I've been surfing on the net to find out if she's still playing. Unfortunatly not. But I saw your biography on the page. Super! I hope to see or hear one day of Chi Coltrane.

Thanks and greetings from,

It's Thunder & Lightning: Yes, from the beginning in the early 70's, one of my favorite's was Chi Coltrane. As a boy of 14 years old I loved her and her music. My first LP at all was.... "Chi Coltrane"

I fell in love with Chi Coltrane's music in the 70's.  I've found one of her albums, Road to Tomorrow, and I'd give a lot to find the rest of them, especiallly Chi Coltrane(1971) and Let it Ride(1973).  Do you have any suggestions as to how I can get the albums or perhaps a cassette recording of the tracks on the albums?

i'm so happy to discover your site about this unforgettable forgotten artist. i first heard of her in the 70's i guess she performed who ever told you here in Belgium. i tried to find her record but i could only find a cassette. then i grew older ... and now with the cd's and the computers i made some cd's with my old records and i remembered her. Can you tell me when she stopped and why what does she do by now thanks for your patience reading me we must remember her she means a lot to our hearts see you.

Hi, I am so gald that I have found this site on Chi Coltrane.  I have liked her ever since the 70's and was very glad when I could finally find a CD of hers.  Mind you I had to order it and it took some time. so now in 2000 I can once again hear the voice of the 70's that made me feel.
I was wondering if Chi does any playing or touring as of now?  It would be great to see the lady of song and feel her energy.  Could you please let me know if she does?  Thanks for this site it's great.

That's too bad that Chi is not touring at the moment, but on the other side of the coin it lets one know that she sang for the love of it, and it was in her soul.  I admire that in a performer.  Over the past 20+ years one song of hers that was always tucked away in my mind was "You Were My Friend".  I guess when I first heard it I was going through something in life and it struck a chord, or even better yet, the way that Chi delivered her soul in the song struck a chord.

I hope that I will be able to thank Chi one day for the contribution she has made.

I was glad to hear that Chi went on to the site and that she liked it.  It
gives her a chance to see that regardless of what happened in the business side of her career, she had fans that loved her music and still carry it in their hearts and daily life. I am one of those people.  It took me a very long time to get some more of her music and I am so glad that I was able to.

I am going on an extended trip around USA,  and I was hoping that Chi would be performing some where so that I could have cauught  her in concert, but oh well at least I will now have her music with me.

I was just listening to a Chi-cd while surfing the net and wondered what
she was doing these days. Very good that you put up a site devoted to her.  She is one of the most important singers of my youth. She had a great influence on me, her voice, her unique way of playing piano (more an extension of her emotions than an instrument). She was the reason I learned to play the piano and learned to sing. I am still very grateful for that. I remember Chi´s first appearance on Dutch television. It was on a program called ´Toppop´, which is like a Dutch version of the English ´Top of the Pops´. She performed `Go Like Elijah` (and recorded in the same session also ´Thunder and Lighting´ and ´You were my friend´), with some kind of turbo-windmachine behind here which made her hair move with the music. This made a lasting impression on a lot of people. Even when I ask people about it now, they all remember this ´wild´ woman behind a piano in black&white. I bought very album she ever made, including the later ones she made for Teldec, like ´The Letter´. I saw her in concert in Utrecht. She performed alone with a treated Steinway, very impressive. The good thing about Chi is that it does not matter if she misses a note or does not sing perfectly, her songs can easily take that. I hope she will read this and decide to release another  album, because I am sure she still writes songs. As I see it, her songs are an expression of who she is. Other people paint, keep a diary or get drunk, but she writes songs.

I would just like to say these words about Chi Coltrane:

I was named after her, I do not know why my parents decided to name me after her other than her great prowress as a singer and songwriter.  I myself was born in 1977.  I remember hearing her voice being played over the record player in my home when I was a child and I was always happy hearing it.  I remember in particular the songs "Thunder and Lightning" and "Go Like Elijah" being my favorites as a child.  The only problem with being named after her is the misspronunciation of the name.  I myself am an example of the misspronunciation.  My parents did not know until I was 5 that Chi was actually pronounced "Shy", they had been calling me Chi like "China".  I think alot of this was due to the fact that she had not done many interviews.  Although, my grandmother does pronounce my name the way it should have been.  I was always told by my mom and dad that I was named after one of the Greatest female artists that has ever lived.  After listening to her music years later, I believe they were right.  I always explain to people where I got my name from, and the story behind the misspronunciation of it that
stemmed from my mother and father.  But I love my name even if it isn't said the way it was meant to be, because the love for me by my parents was involved in it and a great influence (Chi) to them both was behind it.  If I could say one thing to Chi it would be that her music is and will always be an inspiration to those who have had the pleasure of listening to her voice and hear her words.
